The Laboratory of Formation Mechanism of Gas Hydrate was found in July, 2008. The research field of the laboratory covers the basic research and application of gas hydrates and other geo-resources and the geo-storage of energy. It mainly investigates the source, structure, deposition and physical conditions of the geo-reservoir, determines the geophysical and geochemical characterization of geo-resources, studies the kinetic and dynamic processes of resources, establishs the inventory and reserves of geo-resources, evaluates the risk assessment of geo-hazards due to the application of geo-resources by the field survey and experimental and numerical simulation methods. The lab established excellent network with famous universities and laboratories worldwide, e.g. QIMG,GMGS, GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, GFZ – Helmholtz Centre Potsdam German Research Centre for Geosciences, Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research GmbH - UFZ, the University of Kiel , Research Center of Ocean and Margins, University of Bremen, Cornell University, Louisiana State University, National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), Department of Energy (DOE),USA and National Research Council of Canada (NRC).
