Introduction

        Biomass Energy Committee (BEC)is a national academic group which is belonged to China Association of Science and Technology (CAST) and registered by the Ministry of Civil Affairs. BEC is under the instruction of Chinese Renewable Energy Society (CRES) and sets to carry out activities and applies concerning functions in the area of biomass energy. BEC has good relations with Chinese government agencies like CAST, MOST, NEA, etc. Now BEC relies on Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, Chinese Academy of Sciences (GIEC, CAS) and has its agencies in Beijing and Guangzhou.

 

        The members of BEC are consisted of more than 73 units and companies, and 373 individuals, and sets up professional groups majoring in biomass energy source technology, biochemical conversion technology, thermochemical conversion technology, biochemical technology, etc. coming from all the apartments such as biomass energy research, design, manufacture, application, teaching and management. Most of the experts and scholars dedicating to the research and industrialization of biomass energy have joined the BEC, rendering it to become the most important research force in this area.

 

        As a platform of academic communication and technology cooperation between China and other countries, a bridge joins the government and corporations, BEC’s aim is to establish a good relationship among all the practitioners from China and abroad, consolidate and strengthen the friendship and collaboration between BEC and other committees, contact all the practitioners tightly to form domestic production and research union and dedicate to boost the progress of biomass technology and the development of biomass energy industry in China. The main mission of BEC includes:

  1. To promote the development and deployment of biomass energy in China, as well as the commercialization of research findings;
  2. To carry out investigations and studies, gather related information, organize experts to discuss about the technological and economic policies of biomass energy, provide recommendations for policy makers;
  3. To hold international conference, exhibitions and technology communications, provide technical consultation services;
  4. To strengthen the relations with related foreign associations, deepen the mutual understanding in the field of biomass energy, promote the cooperation and technology exchanges between China and other countries; 
  5. To assist related government agencies to form the industry regulations, and  monitor the implementations;
  6. To undertake other missions from the government and other social organizations;
